Well here I am again in Los Angeles.
This place, I've decided, is like the Grand Central Station of my music. I'm always here for some reason. Sometimes it's the destination. Sometimes I'm just on my way somewhere else. We have such history. And yet no commitment. We're so familiar and yet we act like we don't know each other.
After working pretty solidly in London for a few months working on songs with 'The English' here I am 'Stateside'. It's been such a pleasure writing songs this time around. Maybe I said that last time... but it's different. Actually making my last record was just heavenly. I felt like the music just had this urgency and couldn't be stopped. But it was painful subject matter.
This time around it's different for a couple of reasons. First of all I'm working with new faces and that's always initially scary, like the first day of school... and then wonderful because I
obviously grow and learn so much from just rubbing shoulders with greatness. So there's evolution. Secondly, the subject matter this time around is different. It's deep. But it's not so, exhausting. I'm in such a great head space.
Soon I'll be off to New York to sit with men in suits to discuss what treasures I've found. And what trash! Then I'd say we're about half way. Through the writing process that is.
As I type this, Chris Martin is singing me a lullaby from the new Coldplay album.

I hope his meeting with 'The Suits' is productive and he's happy with the outcome.

Darn that guy - every time I think I'm past all of this he goes and spoils it! Intriguing and interesting and more than that - REAL - once again. I hope this time Sony have the guts and intelligence to realise what genius Darren can produce.
And new collaborators? More and more I am looking forward to hearing what he has to say...

Its a very nice message and I for once LOL dont have anything snarky - issue-ey to say about it all.
I know I will always have this like/dislike/love/hate relationship with all things DH and that world.
Its great that he is communicating.. I still would love to go kind of deeper with what really did happen with TTATS etc. But I guess the "suits" didnt approve of going any further with that one.
But what I realised is when I take a step back from the all encompassing love of it all that means I can take a step back from the all encompassing hatred of it all and just feel for the moment what is real. So bring on the new music@!

Yup, the step back for me has been refreshing. I've actually been immersed in beta testing Vampire Online, so coming up for air and finding a nice surprise was...nice.
I would like to know who he's working with. <j/k> A Jim Steinman - Darren Hayes epic would be worth my time</j/k>

It's "Vampire: The Eternal Struggle" card game being made into an online version. There is some fiction involved in the back story from the designer White Wolf (World of Darkness), but I've never been involved in that (want to read some of it though!)
I know Jim Steinman is really the wrong fit, but I have giggles when I think of the mad scientist in the studio trying to work with Darren.
Jim: "HEathen! HEATHEN! You do not do my music justice. Sing, damn you...sing! Or I will bash you do death my fender...I can't remember whether it was a telecaster or a stratocaster..."
